A dear friend and I have a sort of an annual tradition going every October. We had to Cape Cod for a long weekend, stopping in Providence and sandwich along the way.
Given all the rain we’ve had, it was a veritable fungal fairy land. Here’s a favorite, Hydnellum peckii, or the bleeding to fungus. Although they occur in other parts of the country, I’ve only ever seen them in Cape Cod.
The woods did not disappoint this year. We saw all sorts of fungal treasures, and I was really liking the lichen.
