Notes:
These earrings were inspired by earrings by the 19th century French jeweler, Ferdinand Kuyl, who worked in the workshop of Jules Lachaise. A link to the book may be viewed here.
Henri Vever's three volume valuable work La Bijouterie Frençaise de la XIXième Siècle is something of a fairy tale book for me, and I enjoy skimming a volume before bed. For the last two decades, I have been waiting to come across Kuyl's original earrings on the secondary market. Alas, no such luck yet.
But a few years ago, I did come across a pair of Or Poli Repercéearrings I was certain was made during this period. Purchased them sight unseen, and was thrilled to discover they were also made in Kuyl's workshop.
Turning fifty flipped a switch inside me. After waiting over twenty years to find the pair in the book on the secondary market, I decided to produce my own. There are a few changes, but this was a very fun project, and a wish fulfilled. I'm very grateful to the incredible jeweler who worked to conjure these earrings.
